Natural Health and Healing
Natural health and healing is one of the biggest paradigm shifts of the last few decades. There are several reasons for this. For one thing, with more people lacking health insurance and the ability to pay for expensive medical treatment, home remedies and alternative medicine become more attractive. However, this is far from the only reason. Many affluent people also seek alternative and natural health information.
Many people are becoming more informed about the limits and risks of conventional medicine, such as drugs with severe side effects. Very often, we don’t even hear about the real problems these drugs cause until years after people have been taking them.
The new, emerging health paradigm will probably be an eclectic mix of many types of alternative and conventional medicine. Traditional medicine from places like China, India, Tibet, South America and the South Pacific, to name but a few, are becoming popular. Both herbal medicine from these and other regions, and entire modalities such as acupuncture and Ayurvedic medicine become more widely known.
There is probably no one best system for achieving and maintaining health. You have to experiment a little with things like diets and lifestyle and find out what works best for you. It’s not a good idea to blindly trust any authority, whether a medical doctor or an alternative practitioner. It seems, for example, that some people thrive on vegetarian, vegan or raw foods diets, while others need more protein.
